Beware of Job Scams

Do you know how to spot a remote job scam? If not, keep reading...

DON'T APPLY:

  • If the job description asks for little to no education or skills, don't apply.

  • If the job has little to no description of tasks, don't apply.

  • If the rate of pay is too good to be true (not within the normal range for that position), don't apply.

  • If the job says fewer than 100 people clicked apply (on LinkedIn), don't apply.

  • If the company you want to apply to doesn't have a website, Facebook page, LinkedIn page, or Google business page, don't apply.

DON'T REPLY:

  • If you do apply for a job and you get an email from someone directing you to an app, don't reply. And don't click on any links!

  • If you do apply for a job and you get an email from someone, but their email address doesn't match the company name, don't reply.

  • If the name of the person who contacts you doesn't have any attachment to the company you applied to (do a Google search), don't reply.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!! Don't waste your time applying to jobs that aren't real. And don't waste your time replying to people who aren't real.

BE CAREFUL:

  • Try to only apply to companies that have an online presence.

  • Try to only reply to people who have a LinkedIn profile or are associated with the company (meaning you can find them when you do a company search).

  • Try to resist applying to jobs that seem too good to be true, that pay a lot of money, and that expect you to have no skills or education.

  • You will find that perfect job for you, I promise! Just be mindful of the jobs you do apply for. Don't respond to anyone who seems suspicious. And DO NOT give out your social security number to anyone asking for it in a job description!

I wish you all the best of luck with your job search!!! :)
