Purpose of a Resume

A resume is a marketing document. It tells employers who you are, what you can do for them, and what you want as a professional. It should be customized to show off your passion, experience, and your skills. A resume is your chance to get in the door for an interview. It's one step closer to getting that job you've always dreamed of, or that job you need to pay your bills. Either way, it's a necessary tool.

Two Resume Options

ATS Resume

This resume improves your chances of getting past an applicant tracking system. This resume is more of a professional, basic layout that the ATS has a better chance of reading. It's the one you want to send through a database, as an online job board.

Non-ATS Resume

This resume is designed with columns, color, and text boxes. This resume is the one you will personally email to hiring managers, recruiters, business owners, etc. It is not recommended to send this resume through a database because there is no guarantee the ATS will be able to read all of its content.

You may prefer one over the other, or you may want one of each.

My Designs

I have a variety of different designs I use when writing resumes. I create them myself and always customize them as I go along for each individual I work with. I offer non-ATS resume designs as well as ATS-friendly designs. Unless asked to design a non-ATS resume, I will always design an ATS-friendly resume customized to you and your industry/title.

Why should you consider having your resume revamped when seeking a new job?

Currently, there are so many people seeking new job opportunities that recruiters are literally flying through resumes one after another just to keep up. On average, recruiters scan resumes in under 10 seconds. They look for very specific information on a resume, so if a candidate lacks that information, that resume will get tossed to the side. 10 seconds isn’t a lot of time to make a great first impression, but it can be done.

Not only is the placement of your career history important, but so is the placement of your career attributes. Your resume should show off your value. While most professionals know their jobs well, they don’t always know how to talk about themselves and condense it all into one or two pages. They are not good at writing down their personal skills and strengths, or they may lack awareness of them altogether. They may also lack the understanding of what makes a good measurable achievement and why it’s necessary to include them.

These are just a few reasons why revamping your resume is extremely important when seeking a new opportunity. Positions don’t last long, and due to so many candidates fighting for them right now, you want to not only stand out above the rest, but you also want to shout out just how valuable you really are!
